While the title of 'cutest fish in the sea' is heavily contested, the Pacific spiny lumpsucker is certainly a top contender. Many animals are only cute at surface level, however the appeal of this species permeates every single one of its characteristics, including their behaviours, size, shape, and life cycle.

This patch is inspired by a photograph of a Pacific spiny lumpsucker that I met in Saanich, B.C. This individual is particularly special, as it is the only one to have ever clung to my mask while I was trying to take its photo!
